Mehndi Night in Jamnagar: Planning Mehndi for the Bride, Family and Guests (2026)
In a Gujarati wedding the mehndi night is one of the happiest evenings: the bride at the centre, music, family around her, and a queue of cousins, aunts and friends waiting for their turn. It is also the function that most often runs late, because the bride's full design takes hours and everyone else wants mehndi too. With a little planning, the bride gets her design without being rushed and every guest who wants mehndi gets it. This guide explains how to plan it, based on how we work at Feelings Beauty Care in Jamnagar.
The bride's mehndi and the guests' mehndi are two different jobs
The bride's mehndi is a full design on both hands and feet, made for her and her outfit. It needs one artist's steady attention for a long stretch, so it is usually started first and never squeezed. Guests want something quicker: a design that looks lovely in photos and is done in minutes, so the queue keeps moving. Treat them as two separate plans: one artist for the bride, and one or more for family and guests at the same time.
Designs that work well for family and guests
- Arabic vines: a bold, flowing floral trail from the fingertips across the back of the hand. Quick, open and very photogenic.
- Finger and wrist designs: fingertips filled in, with a small motif or band at the wrist. Ideal when the queue is long.
- A single palm mandala: one round motif in the centre of the palm, with the fingertips filled in.
- Modern and geometric: minimal lines and dots for guests who want something light and contemporary.
- Fuller designs for close family: the bride's mother, sisters and bridesmaids often want more than guests, so plan extra time for them.
At Feelings Beauty Care we do full bridal mehndi for hands and feet in Rajasthani, Arabic, Indo-Arabic and modern styles, and quicker party mehndi for guests, family and bridesmaids.
How to book a mehndi artist for your mehndi night
When you message a mehndi artist, the more you share, the better they can plan the team. Send these details together:
- The date and start time of the mehndi function.
- The venue: at home, a hall, a farmhouse or a hotel, and whether there is good light and seating.
- Roughly how many guests will want mehndi. An approximate number is enough to plan the team.
- The bride's style: Rajasthani, Arabic, Indo-Arabic or modern, with a few reference photos if she has them.
- Anyone with fuller designs in mind, such as the mother of the bride or the bridesmaids.
- Any skin sensitivities or allergies, so the artist can plan around them.
We come to your mehndi night. Our mehndi night package brings the bride and family together, with our team at your venue. Tell us the date, the place and roughly how many guests want mehndi, and we will plan the team.
When to do the mehndi
Bridal mehndi is usually applied one to two days before the wedding, so the colour has time to deepen. Guests can have theirs on the same evening. If the bride is also having her nails done, plan the two together. Tell us your mehndi date when you book your nails and we will time them so the two work together.
Getting a deep, even colour
- Come with clean skin: hands and feet washed and free of lotion or oil, so the paste stains evenly.
- Let the paste dry fully and leave it on for as long as you comfortably can before scraping it off.
- Keep water away for the first few hours after removing the paste.
- Expect the colour to keep deepening over the next day. It is lighter at first and darker the next morning.
- Scrape the dried paste off gently instead of washing it off.
Safety first: natural henna only
Ask for natural henna paste. So-called black henna can contain a chemical dye that may cause skin reactions, so it is best avoided, especially for children and anyone with sensitive skin. If a guest has reacted to mehndi before, they should tell the artist before the design starts.
How many days before the wedding should the bride's mehndi be done?
Usually one to two days before, so the colour has time to deepen. We fix the exact timing with you when you book.
Do you come to the venue for the mehndi night?
Yes. Tell us the date, the place and roughly how many guests want mehndi, and we will plan the team.
Can guests have quick designs while the bride's mehndi is being done?
Yes. The bride's design is done by one artist while the party mehndi for family and guests runs alongside, so nobody waits for the bride's design to finish.
Which styles can the bride choose from?
Rajasthani, Arabic, Indo-Arabic and modern or geometric designs. Our bridal mehndi style guide explains the differences.
